HERE'S WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING ABOUT SQUIRMY WORMY!

"Squirmy Wormy is a cute and funny picture book that will help elementary school children   understand sensory problems"

-  Temple Grandin, Ph. D., author of The Way I See It and Thinking in Pictures

"Squirmy Wormy is quite a departure from the other books I have reviewed.  As opposed to adult oriented toolbox books, this is written for children.  It is whimsical, light-hearted and fun.  At the same time, it is clear, direct, presenting plain and open language that an ASD child will recognize.  It is illustrated in bright watercolors and in a fashion reminiscent of a child's artwork, enhancing its appeal.  I believe this book will be well recieved by most any child.  Wilson's one-liner lessons- which stand out in bright chartruese- summarize the story-statement preceding it, solidifyinga simple truth the child can apply action to."

"...and with that, the solution hit me like lightning: “You need to get your son the book Squirmy Wormy by Lynda Farrington Wilson to help teach him to regulate his own body!” I announced with a level of enthusiasm that is hard to get across in mere words. You see, I had just read it, and when this mom was asking me questions it was like a dream come true to know of the perfect book to suggest to her to help her son."

-  Hartley Steiner, Hartley's Life with Three Boys, author of This is Gabriel Making Sense of School

"Lynda has transcribed the behaviors seen with sensory needs in her book, Squirmy Wormy that depicts, Tyler, a child with Autism and SPD maneuvering throughout his day.  The use of repetitive sing song words, “Flappy, Flappy, Pinchy, Pinchy, Hit, Hit, Hit” brings the young reader to attention.  Lynda follows each behavior with a sensory suggestion for kids, then suggestions for adults.  Squirmy Wormy’s illustrations have depicted the busy mind of a SPD child when over stimulated.  Lynda then shows us what that child looks like when the stimulation has been removed and a calm mind can then be obtained.  Tyler is shown with a smile when his sensory needs are just right, a great reinforcement for kids when this book is being read to them, or reading it themselves.

A wonderful book for a young classroom, to let kids know they are not the only ones who feel overwhelmed, and some easy suggestions for students and teachers on how to deal with it."

Sensory Flow, A Blog About Sensory Processing Disorder

"This colorful picture book captures how overwhelming sensation can be to children with SPD through gorgeous imaginative pictures.  The reader will learn about SPD and learn strategies to help calm the nervous system of a child who experiences a disorganized sensory world"

-  Paula Aquilla, B.SC., O.T. author of Building Bridges Through Sensory Integration

"It's not often that I see a book which comfortably sits across several age groups and brings useful and different information to each.  Squirmy Wormy is such a  book"  Click here to see full review.

-  Gavin Bollard, Blogcritic, The Autism News

"What a sweet book this is! We follow a day in the life of little Tyler who struggles with certain events he comes across during his day but always remembers his wonderful coping methods to "Help Himself". This is a powerful message that we need to instill in our 'sensational' kids because they often believe that they 'can't'. This book teaches them that they CAN!"  Click here to see the full review.

In each scenario, Lynda Farrington Wilson presents resources one might find in an Occupational Therapist’s space along with practical every day solutions using items around any household. An educating resource, Squirmy Wormy is written in short, easy to understand statements, inserting fun “noises” that engage the reader and capture both the reader and listener alike. Fun, accurately depicted illustrations round out this enlightening children’s book. Additionally, siblings, peers and the adults surrounding a child with Sensory Processing Disorder will find this book beneficial.  Squirmy Wormy - How I Learned to Help Myself is a book I highly recommend. I have been reading this with my son, diagnosed with SPD and his siblings. All have enjoyed the engagement and one of my children routinely mocks the pages while flipping through; this is now all of my children’s favorite book. I have found this book to be an educational reference, quickly reminding me of the drivers behind of some of my son’s actions. I can only imagine others will find it just as useful; this truly is a book for everyone. To see the full review, click here.
